I’ve always been a big believer in that you learn the most from people who are unlike you. I’ve spent a lifetime seeking out new experiences, new people and new ideas. To me that is true diversity.
Last night I went to a meetup sponsored by the Ellevate Network Identifying The Mindset Factor: How Mindset Training and Virtual Reality Increases Corporate Performance, Confidence, and Risk Taking.
As part of the discussion Andrea Carter provided info on the results of their Mindset research where they tested both Men and Women on how they responded in VR scenarios of performance reviews.
One of the results that fascinated me was, to paraphrase in Design Thinking language, the Men’s responses showed a Bias to Action and the women showed an ability for Radical Collaboration.
I want to build teams that have both of these key characteristics. Which is why I like to build and be a part of diverse teams.
To me this is the point of drawing together a team from all walks of life. Though I think we are more than our tendencies and we can learn other ways of thinking and doing… this is promoted by bringing together people with different strengths. The whole team benefits.
