I went to the AgileTO meetup this week on Agile Transformation Teams. It was an exercise guided by Agile consultant and trainer Joe Little. Individual tables were fictional ATT teams that went through steps to define their work.
No one at our table knew each other and came from different backgrounds and experiences. The first step was coming up with a scenario. Ours was complete fiction and messy. Possibly more true to life than manageable in a two hour experience.
Our scenario: An Agile team supporting a business unit on a digital transformation wanted to increase the possibility of success by doing Agile “better”. They had undergone Agile transformations before. The business unit were experts on their business but didn’t understand agile. There was resistance because of the past. Requirements were often unclear.
Our discussion threw up many questions. Should we:
- focus on removing the impediments to Agile? Or on doing Agile better?
- focus on the Business Team or the Agile delivery team
- get involved in the delivery project or not?
Many rewrites of our vision ensued.
What we came up with was neither right or wrong, it moved us forward to the next steps: metrics to measure success, setting the team and budget, user stories for the ATT.
