I was at an event recently where the audience were SMB business owners.
The speaker likes to use fear-based marketing to draw a contrast to what she is advocating.
She was painting a picture of all the risks and uncertainty that business leaders have to deal with. A laundry list of common risks for business owners. And then she said it… jobs are going to lost because of AI!
It was a turn off for me.
If you are going to use fear-based marketing, at least get the fear right. Or you just sound alarmist and fake.
For business owners, AI causing job losses is not the fear that hits home. They’re not worried about losing jobs—they’re focused on creating jobs.
👉 Falling behind competitors who are leveraging AI effectively.
👉 Losing the personal touch with clients due to over-automation
👉 Investing in AI tools that don’t deliver results or ROI.
For business owners, AI isn’t a threat to job security—it’s a tool. The real fear? Being left behind while others figure out how to use it better.
The focus isn’t on whether AI will replace people.
It’s on whether AI will help—or hurt—their ability to grow, compete, and connect. They focus on AI opportunities.
What are your thoughts?
Are we focusing on the right challenges when it comes to AI and business growth?
